WHAT IS IT?
Essentially, bone broth is made from animal bones and connective tissue (typically cattle, chicken, or fish) That have been boiled into a broth and slow simmered for 10 to more than 20 hours!
Bones and connective tissue are storehouses for essential amino acids and minerals — which are lacking in many of our diets today. This nutrient-dense formula is loaded with gelatin, vitamins, proteins, minerals and also an invaluable source of collagen, keeping you beautiful, young and healthy!
BONE BROTH AND I
While some people say that bone broth is becoming an expensive indulgence, I swear by its healing abilities. I’ve found bone broth to be a natural immunity booster. When I feel like I’m coming down with a cold, I cheekily go beyond the suggest serving sizes (shhh). This always assists in alleviating the common cold, at least for me.
Now, lets look to the outside, beauty. Since I have made bone broth a staple in my diet I have reaped the benefits in the mirror. My hair is growing at twice the rate and it’s shining. I must say I haven’t been my hair’s best friend either, even with plenty of bleaching and colouring, I an safely say there is hope for us all! (My brother is a hairdresser, so you can see my dilemma). My nails are tougher than ever, breaking less often than usual, although they mostly are a result of clumsiness.
Another awesome improvement, my mood! As you know we all run into times in our lives where we become stressed, overwhelmed or anxious. Now I am not going to say Bone Broth is the answer but since I began my journey with bone broth I’ve definitely been smiling more. Recent studies have shown the major role gut health plays in mental health. Don’t take my word for it, Google “the gut-brain connection” and be amazed!
Now enough about me, some other awesome benefits of bone broth – strengthen bones and teeth, fights inflammation, improves gut health, and many more!
MY FAVOURITE BONE BROTH PRODUCT
I’m currently obsessed with Nes Protein products, so, of course my favourite bone broth product is going to be a part of their range. It’s completely organic and free of nasties. I can’t go past the Nes Proteins, Beef Bone Broth (with turmeric.) The flavour is divine and I find myself using it at least 4 times a week – My gut is thanking me for it.
HOW DO I TAKE IT?
One teaspoon is equivalent to 100ml of liquid broth in a jar. Enjoy by adding to boiling water. It’s as easy as making a cup of tea. Dehydrated NesProteins bone broth is an easy way to have it at your fingertips anywhere, anytime. No refrigeration needed!
It is great for adding or disguising (with children) into everyday foods. Sprinkle into Bolognese, gravy, sauces, soups, sprinkled into stir fries, for that added bit of nutritional value, keeping you and your family healthy.
MY FAVOURITE BONE BROTH RECIPE:
BONE BROTH PROTEIN BITES
- 1 cup raw cashews
- 1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
- 1/3 cup unsweetened sunflower butter
- TBSP organic honey
- 1 scoop (21g) organic turmeric bone broth protein
- 1 TBSP ground ginger
Add cashews and shredded coconut to food processor and pulse until a coarse, even mixture forms. Add remaining ingredients to food processor and continue to pulse until a coarse, even mixture forms (the mixture should stick together slightly). Transfer mixture to an 8-by-8-inch baking pan (or similar) and, using your hands, push down on the mixture to create a firm, even layer in the pan. Let set in refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove tray and, using a sharp knife, cut the mixture into squares. Store these bites in a container in your refrigerator for up to one week.
